The Sherwood Park & District Chamber of Commerce was pleased to attend the Economic Society of Northern Alberta’s 2020 Economic Outlook Conference at the historic Fairmont Hotel Macdonald on December 5th, 2019.

This  annual Ecomic Outlook Conference discusses the economic outlook globally and provincially from various Chief Economists. This year speakers included Catherine Rothrock, Chief Economist and Executive Director at the Treasury Board & Finance at the Government of Alberta and Douglas Porter, Chief Economist and Managing Director at BMO Financial Group. The keynote speaker was Edmonton entrepreneur Ashif Mawji who spoke on artificial intelligence. The day concluded with a panel made up of four Indigenous leaders who discussed the path to economic reconciliation, including the Chief Operating Officer of Enoch Cree Nation, Ron Minks.

The Economics Society of Northern Alberta is a non-profit and non-partisan organization with objectives to promote better understanding and informed public discussion of important economic issues. ESNA organizes events that feature prominent presenters and supports academic achievement in economics through the provision of scholarships.

By attending this conference, the Sherwood Park & District Chamber of Commerce was able to hear from top Albertan and Canadian economists for a balanced economic outlook for Alberta, Canada and the world. This information concerning the forecast of our economy in the next year and beyond, informs the work we do for our membership, including policy development.
